London Fashion Week:Troubles For Models

Many of the important parties are blaming the British Fashion Council for the troubles, condemning it of mishandling the jam-packed London show program and not giving a chance to the organizers to stand up behind New York and Milan fashion weeks. There are only two to three shows of a single day attempting for the same models in New York, Paris and Milan. On a day as Monday in London, you have 11 designers all combating to get the same girls – and with shows packed back-to-back all over London, everybody is unable to find,” said Nick Burns from Star & Co casting agency, which was in charge for casting the Todd Lynn and PPQ shows. He also said, “It’s not the London agents’ responsibility. With all the huge money publicity work coming from New York, Milan and Paris, London has no control. We are seen as the meager relations.

“The outcome of all this will be that models will discontinue coming to London and respectable designers will be forced to stop showing here because they will never be able to get good enough girls.” Chief executive of the British Fashion Council, Caroline Rush said, “In the past, there have always been challenges regarding models in London and many of the smaller businesses showing here do not have the capital to compete on price with the worldwide fashion brands in, for example, Milan and Paris fashion weeks.

“Over the past year, we have empowered time in rising direct relationships with model agencies to better appreciate their challenges and give confidence them to send more internationally-recognised catwalk models to London. In the recent season, the models at designers such as Jonathan Saunders, Erdem, Christopher Kane and Tom Ford have been of a international standard.”
